These DMD era games allowed for the integration of animated sequences into the pinball experience. As technology progressed, dot matrix displays (DMD) were incorporated into pinball machines. Instead of score reels, alphanumeric displays tracked the player's points. In the late 1970s, simple computers began to replace mechanical relays and solid state pinball machines rose to prominence. In the 1940s, flippers were added, and the era of electromechanical pinball was born. Gently nudging the machine to change the travel of the pinball provided the only human interaction.
